Hunneberg - Ett diskussionsinlägg
Abstract
Hunneberg is a large hill in the province of Västergötland (hundæbiærgh from around 1325; hwndaberg 1461). Elof Hellquist and Ivar Lundahl addressed the first element of the name Hunneberg. They reflect upon the interpretations *hund- ʻheightʼ and hund ʻdogʼ. Lundahl considers hund ʻdogʼ the most probable alternative. The present author discusses another potential starting point for the interpretation of Hunneberg: OGerm. *hunþ- ʻcatch; bootyʼ (Goth. hunþ, OE. hūð).
